Dog Parks - Wichita, KS - J.P. Weigand & Sons, Inc.

Walking your dog is good for your own health and also for your dog's wellbeing. More active dogs are less prone to arthritis and joint pain as they age. On your end, walking can help keep your heart and mind healthy. If you've been meaning to walk your dog more often, October 1-7 is the week to start making that goal a reality. It's Walk Your Dog Week, and our real estate agents recommend visiting one of these Wichita parks to get started.

  1. Chapin Park: 2400 E. MacArthur Rd., Wichita, KS 67216
Chapin Park is a large, 190-acre regional park. There is a dedicated dog park with two separate, off-leash enclosures. Each park has a shaded shelter, so you and your dog can get some relief from the sunshine. There's plenty of parking on-site too.

In addition to the dog park, Chapin Park has a gravel walking trail that dogs are allowed on as long as they're leashed. This path offers lovely views of the Arkansas River and has some nice wooded sections.

  2. K-9 Rooster Dog Park: 2127 N. Meridian Ave., Wichita, KS 67203
If you're looking at Wichita homes for sale in the northwest part of the city, this is a great dog park to visit. K-9 Rooster Dog Park is located on the north shore of the Arkansas River. It's been built in an eco-friendly manner with a permeable paving system, and it's named after Canine Rooster, a Wichita police dog who lost his life in 2017.

Meridian Dog Park offers an ample 8 acres of space, including three off-leash enclosures. The park has drinking fountains, benches, and waste removal stations.

  3. Harrison Dog Park: 1300 S. Webb Rd., Wichita, KS 67203
    W.B. Harrison Park
is a large, 40-acre park with lovely buffalo grass turf. The rolling hills give you and your dog opportunities for exercise. You can also rest by the fishing pond or walk along the exercise trail.

The dog park within W.B. Harrison Park offers four separate pens. Some of the pens are being rehabbed with new turf in 2022, but the remaining pens will remain open during this work period.

  4. Naftzger Dog Park: 601 E. Douglas Ave., Wichita, KS 67203
    Naftzger Park
is a lovely green space at the corner of Douglas and St. Francis avenues in downtown Wichita. There's a splash park, picnic shelters, and a stage on-site, but the dog park is one of the top attractions.

The off-leash park at Naftzger Park is fully fenced-in. Dogs of all sizes are welcome, and there are benches throughout the park where you can rest.

  5. Andover Central Park: 1609 E. Central Ave., Andover, KS 67002
Andover Central Park is a good spot to take your dog if you're looking at Andover homes for sale nearby. Toward the southern side of the park, you'll find a newer dog park built in 2016. There are separate areas for large and small dogs here.

Andover Central Park also has a hiking path open to leashed dogs. If your kids are with you, you may also want to spend some time at the playground, which is accessible and appropriate for all ages.

Taking your dog to the park is a great way to bond with them, especially during Walk Your Dog Week. If you're new to the area and still looking for a place you and your dog can call home, contact us soon. Our agents are ready to help.
