- Botanica Wichita - 701 Amidon St., Wichita, KS 67203
Spanning just over 17 acres, Botanica Wichita is a spectacular park and botanical garden in the heart of the city. It's an urban oasis just minutes from many Wichita homes for sale. Various themed gardens come alive with brilliant foliage in fall. The Woodland Walk & Frank Smith Woodland Glade is especially beautiful as the leaves change. The gardens also host many migrating monarch butterflies this time of year. The winged insects stop at the garden throughout September on their way south for the winter, providing an extra splash of color.
- Chisholm Creek Park & Trail - Chisholm Creek Park, Wichita, KS 67220
Following the historic path used to drive cattle after the Civil War, the Chisholm Trail is one of the great long-distance trails in Kansas. In Wichita, it meanders through the picturesque landscape of Chisholm Park. The park is divided by Kansas Highway 96 into Chisholm Park South and Chisholm Park North. The south unit has a more woodsy landscape, making it great for fall foliage hikes, while the north unit includes a hiking trail around the shore of a 23-acre stocked fishing lake.
- Redbud Trail - 702 N. Hydraulic Ave., Wichita, KS 67214
Following the smooth path of a former railroad line, the Redbud Trail is a great resource for hikers, joggers, and cyclists in Wichita. The trail is a work in progress—a little over 6 miles are currently complete—that will one day stretch 20 miles from Wichita to Augusta. The westernmost trailhead is at the Hydraulic Avenue parking area just west of I-135, but there are dozens of access points. The section east from the Rock Road crossing is especially scenic for leaf-peepers searching for beautiful fall foliage.
- Santa Fe Lake - 11367 SW Shore Dr., Augusta, KS 67010
Some of the best fishing and boating opportunities in the Wichita area can be found at Santa Fe Lake. The lake also offers great scenery, and fall is an amazing time to paddle around the shoreline in a kayak and take in the fiery fall colors. The Augusta Parks & Recreation Department also maintains a campground and several miles of wooded hiking and mountain biking trails near the lakeshore. Santa Fe Lake is less than 20 miles from Wichita and even closer to these Augusta homes for sale.
- Sedgwick County Zoo - 5555 W. Zoo Blvd., Wichita, KS 67212
There's never really a bad time to visit the Sedgwick County Zoo, but there's just something special about exploring this outdoor wildlife park during fall. The changing leaves provide a great backdrop for the 3,000 animals that call the zoo home, and the cooler temperatures offer a welcome respite from the summer heat. There are also some very cool fall events at the zoo, including Boo at the Zoo on October 22 and 23 and nightly Wild Lights after-dark displays from September 30 to December 4.
