Do you love getting lost in a good book? Are your favorite gifts novels or comic books? If so, we have some good news. National Book Lovers Day is coming up on August 9th. This holiday is dedicated to book lovers of all ages and interests. Whether you love crime novels or biographies, our real estate agents encourage you to visit one of these local Wichita bookstores in celebration. 

  • Watermark Books & Cafe: 4701 E. Douglas Ave., Wichita, KS 67218
    Watermark Books & Cafe is an independent bookstore near many Wichita homes for sale. Not only do they have a great selection of books, but there's also a cafe inside the shop. You can order a sandwich, a pastry and coffee, or a salad to enjoy while you read. Many of the sandwiches are named after famous books. Guests really love The Iliad chicken salad sandwich.

    Watermark books hosts a lot of storytimes and author signings, which are listed on their website. In addition to traditional books, they offer e-books and audiobooks.

  • Book-a-Holic: 924 S. Oliver St., Wichita, KS 67218
    Buying used books is a good way to reduce waste and save a little money at the same time. Book-a-Holic is one of the best-known used bookstores in Wichita and a great place to visit for National Book Lovers Day. 

    This store first opened in 1993. Since then, they have built quite a collection of used novels, non-fiction books, and children's books. They even have how-to books on sewing, quilting, and other crafts. If you have any books you no longer need, bring them along to sell. 

  • Half Price Books: 8145 E. Kellogg Dr., Wichita, KS 67207
    Half Price Books 
    is one of the larger bookstores in Wichita. But their prices are some of the lowest—as the name suggests. They carry both used and new books. There's an entire wall of staff picks, which are good go-to options if you're unsure what to read. They also have several aisles of children's picture books and young adult fiction.

    Half Price Books also donates books to non-profit groups. They've been around since 1972 and are active in the local literary scene.

  • Al's Old and Used Book Store: 700 W. Douglas Ave., Wichita, KS 67203
    If you're looking for a specific, older title, then Al's Old and Used Book Store is the place to go. This shop first opened in 1957 and has received many awards over the years. They specialize in older, classic books, but they carry many newer titles, too.

    Al's has a great Classic Children's Fiction section. They have tons of books from the Boxcar Children, Nancy Drew, and Hardy Boys series. They also have a whole section of books on Kansas and Wichita history.

  • Eighth Day Books: 2838 E. Douglas Ave., Wichita, KS 67214
    Eighth Day Books first opened in 1998 and is a favorite among book lovers in Wichita. They carry a lot of offbeat books, including those in the science fiction and historical fiction genres. They have a great selection of books by C.S. Lewis as well as classic Greek literature, too.

    Eighth Day Books has a quiet atmosphere and is a lovely place to relax and browse for an hour or two.
