What to Leave Behind - Home Sellers - J.P. Weigand & Sons, Inc.

You spend years making your house a home. As you settle in and the seasons change year after year, you add appliances, landscaping, fixtures, and other features that personalize the home and enhance your comfort. Our real estate agents know how you feel, and we understand that it's natural to want to take some of your old home with you when you go. However, it's important to remember that you can't take everything, and in fact, if you do, you could be creating problems that could land you in hot water. The following are six simple rules you should know when it comes to understanding what you can take and what you should leave behind.

  • Rule #1 - If it's nailed down, it sticks around
Light fixtures, faucets, security systems, bric-a-brac, and anything that is either nailed, screwed, glued, or cemented to the property should stay behind. Not only can you damage it when you remove it, but most buyers assume that if it's attached, it's part of the deal.
