Adding a Water Softener - J.P. Weigand & Sons, Inc.

If you've been looking at Wichita homes for sale, you may have noticed that a number of them list a water softener as one of the features. But if you've never had one installed, you may wonder just what value they add to the property. Our real estate agents can tell you that it is a very popular upgrade. Here are some details to help you determine whether purchasing a water softener would be a wise decision for you:

  • What is hard water?
When water is saturated with dissolved calcium and magnesium, as well as other minerals, it's considered "hard." When calcium carbonate exceeds 60 milligrams per liter, it is defined as hard. More than 180 milligrams per liter is extremely hard. Wichita has a water hardness level of 131 mg/L and Kansas City, 330 mg/L! To reduce these dissolved minerals, homeowners turn to water softeners for help.

Hosting a Garage Sale - Sellers - J.P. Weigand & Sons, Inc.

Once you've sold your home and found a new house among Wichita homes for sale, you don't want to move things you no longer want or need. Before you toss it all or donate it all, hosting a garage sale is a great way to make a fast buck. But, it's not an easy buck, and you'll have to put in some effort to make your garage sale successful. Our real estate agents recommend the following tried and true methods to make that happen.

  • Time it Right
The second Saturday in August is National Garage Sale Day. It's a great time because most people are back from vacations, and kids are just starting school. If you can't do it then, avoid scheduling it for a holiday weekend otherwise, the holiday will affect turnout.

Outdoor Sculptures - Wichita, KS - J.P. Weigand & Sons, Inc.

Art comes in so many forms. While many people keep art in their homes for their own enjoyment, there's also art displayed publicly for the enjoyment of all. Outdoor sculptures fall into this category of public art, and Wichita is home to some lovely ones. Here are some sculptures our real estate agents think you'll enjoy.

  • Keeper of the Plains: 650 N. Seneca St., Wichita, KS 67203
Keeper of the Plains is a magnificent steel statue built where the Big and Little Arkansas rivers intersect. It was created in 1974 by Blackbear Bosin, a Native American artist, in honor of the surrounding land's sacred significance to the Native people.

Stretching more than 44 feet into the sky, this statue is truly a sight to behold. If you visit at 9 pm in the spring or summer or at 7 pm in the fall or winter, the accompanying Ring of Fire will be lit, casting a gorgeous light on the statue.
