Wichita Tourist Attractions - J.P. Weigand & Sons, Inc.

The Wichita area is bursting with fun attractions and things to do. But if you've lived here for a while, you may not take the time to venture out and explore as much as you used to. This summer, consider taking a "staycation" and re-acquainting yourself with the Wichita area through a tourist's eyes. Here are some of the top attractions our real estate agents recommend.

  • Jurassic Art: 256 W. Rosewood St., Rose Hill KS, 67133
    If you're looking at Rose Hill homes for sale, be sure to stop at Jurassic Art while you're in the area. This offbeat tourist attraction is a collection of artistic creations related to Jurassic Park and the Jurassic period in general. 

    Visitors can drive or walk through the park for free. You'll see dinosaur sculptures, a 15.5-foot Sir Allen the Knight, and even a graveyard for discontinued cars.

  • Great Plains Nature Center: 6232 E. 29th St, Wichita KS, 67220
    Great Plains Nature Center
    is a must-see for nature lovers looking at Wichita homes for saleYou can see 25 species of native animals in the wildlife exhibit, including some birds of prey. You can watch the animals being fed each day at noon, and admission is free.

    Great Plains Nature Center also has 282 acres of land with paved trails, which roam past ponds, prairies, and wetlands.

  • Kauffman Museum: 27th and North Main Streets, North Newton KS, 67117
    Anyone looking at North Newton homes for sale should stop at the Kauffman Museum to learn more about Kansas and the prairie states in general. The museum has collections of artifacts and exhibits on American bison, the Mennonite culture, wool making, and more.

    Kauffman Museum is open seven days a week, and admission is only $4 for adults and $2 for kids.

  • McPherson County Old Mill Museum: 120 Mill St., Lindsborg KS, 67456
    The McPherson County Old Mill Museum is a place where you can view an old mill and learn about the county's early history. It's an easy tourist attraction to see while looking at Lindsborg homes for sale.

    Most exhibits at the museum are from the years 1870 - 1910. Visit Monday - Saturday. Admission is only $2 for adults and $1 for kids.

  • Chaplin Nature Center: 27814 27th Dr., Arkansas City KS, 67005
    Chaplin Nature Center is the perfect place to learn more about the region's flora and fauna while looking at nearby Arkansas City homes for sale. Operated by the Wichita Audubon Society, the nature center has an extensive network of trails open to the public. A river runs through the property, and there are plenty of birds to observe.

    The trails at Chaplin Nature Center are well-maintained and suitable for children. They're open daily from dawn until dusk.

  • Sedgwick County Zoo: 5555 Zoo Blvd., Wichita KS, 67212
    No staycation in Wichita is complete without a visit to the Sedgwick County Zoo. It's an accredited zoo that has won numerous awards for its conservation efforts. You'll see more than 400 species of animals, including giraffes and penguins. Guests can walk through the Gorilla Forest, American Barn, and the KOCH Orangutan and Chimpanzee Habitat.

    Sedgwick County Zoo is open daily from 9 am - 5 pm. Concessions are available onsite, and they offer stroller rentals for parents.
