Closet Turned Office - Wichita, KS - J.P. Weigand & Sons, Inc.

Have you found yourself working from home a little more frequently this past year? You're not alone if you have, and you're not likely to return to the office anytime soon. Most Americans have indicated they would prefer to work from home rather than return to the cubicle. However, many Americans have discovered that working from home daily requires finding creative ways to transform areas into ad hoc offices. If you're looking for a fast and easy way to find space and close up the office at the end of the day, our real estate agents recommend taking a closer look at your cluttered closets.

Clutter Can Go

Closets are catch-alls for clutter. They are filled with old sporting equipment, packing materials, shopping bags, old shoes, items for Goodwill, and more. While that little voice in the back of your head says, "You'll use this someday," that little voice is blowing smoke. You'll never need it. You'll never use it. And, you'll never miss it. So, clear it out and toss or donate it. With spring cleaning in high gear, now is the perfect time to motivate yourself to create a cloffice you will use week after week, year after year.

Your "Cloffice" is a Blank Slate

Once cleared out, your closet is a blank slate for you to create the perfect home office. The first thing you will want to do is paint the space a bright color that will add some cheer and help illuminate the space. Similarly, make sure that you install a soft-white light bulb with sufficient wattage to light up the area. These steps are crucial as they will help you stay focused and alert while you're working.

Next, find a desk that fits within your closet area. If you select a desk with drawers, be sure that you have sufficient space to open/close them. If not, a drawerless desk may be a better fit. It is also a good idea to select a desk that allows your chair to slide comfortably into it so that you can close the closet door and put work out of sight and out of mind at the end of the day.

Many homeowners with a cloffice choose to position shelves along the walls. This makes it easier for you to keep all your papers and office supplies organized. It also gives you a chance to add pictures, plants, printers, routers, and more.

It is also vital to make sure that you have sufficient Wi-Fi connectivity within the cloffice. If you find you have a weak signal, you may need to move your router or purchase a new router to boost the signal. This is an added investment, but it's worth every penny in the productivity it will facilitate.

Lastly, don't forget the door. When you open your cloffice door, the space on the interior side of the door is perfect for attaching small shelves, whiteboards, storage folders, pictures, and more. It is added storage space that can further help you keep the cloffice from filling up with clutter again.
